The Kootenay Lake is about 120 km long, with the West Arm stretching 35 km into the west. The main direction of the lake is North - South. At the south of the lake lies the town of Creston, with many motels, restaurants, orchards and fruit stands. Driving north, to the Kootenay Bay, you will pass many lakeshore hamlets, marinas, motels, campsites, hiking trails. From Kootenay Bay you can take the ferry and land in Belfour, and continue all the way to the historical town of Nelson. From Nelson you can either come back to Creston, or progress West to the Okanagan Valley. Arrow Lakes are parallel to Kootenay Lake on the West side in a more wild area.
