Fernie
Area or you can call it the Elk Valley was the coal bonanza era
at the beginning of the 20th Century. Some mines are still in
operation, but the total volume of coal per year now is not greater,
then 20 mil tones. Beside the coal and mineral mines, the Fernie
Area is a world class skiing resort and summer recreation region.
New resort facilities are growing up everywhere around Fernie.
Access to Fernie area is by Highway 3 from South Alberta, or
by east branch out of Highway 95, running along the Columbia
Valley. In the vicinity of Fernie, you will find the Heritage
Town of Fort Steele, and the Town of Cranbrook, with an airport.
There is an excellent communication links from Alberta, British
Columbia, Idaho and Montana.
