Canada's economy is based on natural resources and Alberta is no exception here. Beside the huge oil and gas reserves here, you will find many waters and wind power electricity generating plants scattered in various parts of this Province. In South Alberta, near the Rocky Mountains and Foothills, there are strong prevailing winds and not surprisingly, one will find dozens of windmills generating electricity for Alberta power grid. Calgary's LRT (Light Transit Train) operates solely on wind generated power. In the Mountains you can find several water-powered electricity generating plants. These are relatively small, unobtrusive plants situated on fast water flow (natural or man made). Each of them contributes to the Alberta and International Power Grid. These plants are become a part of our life, and have over the years curiously added flavor to the natural environment.
